Croom, Tucker Hill Trail Head
If you have never been to Croom, you’re in for a treat. A treasure for trail runners and hikers, you’ll be surprised at the variation in elevation and landscape just an hour north of Tampa, outside Brooksville via I-75 or the Suncoast Parkway.
This park, located in Withlacoochee State Forest, is comprised of 50 miles of trails, clearly designated for hiking/running, biking, and horseback riding.
Most people start from the Tucker Hill Trail Head on Croom Road. You’ll find restrooms, a large shelter, picnic tables and an outdoor bike wash/shower at the trail head. Since no water is available on the trails, be sure to carry plenty.
Map: See below.
Trails: The surface ranges from hard-packed dirt to pine needles with occasional sandy spots, depending on how long since it’s rained. You can run a mile without a rooty patch, but there are roots. The rootiest areas are within a half mile of the trail head in both directions.
Think of it as a pie. The perimeter is the yellow/orange trail. Two parallel lines split it into thirds. These are the blue connectors. Croom Rital Road runs right through the center, parallel to the blue connectors. There are hiking, biking, and carriage trails; so, be sure you’re on the right trail.
Restrooms: At Tucker Hill Trail Head
